Happy New Year folks! Despite not being as active around Deviantart these days, I must uphold the annual tradition of a [2019 New Year's Revolution] review! Let’s see how well I did last year~

[2015] | [2016] | [2017] | [2018]

[PASSED] 1. Improve myself as a person. Learn to be more mindful of others, and put more effort into relationships I have with people around me.

  • I think I have grown more as a person in this regard. My way of thinking and how I respond in terms of conflict has definitely matured compared to how I was in the past. And as a result of that, I've managed to reduce the amount of conflict I experience with the people around me to very minimal amounts overall. Of course, there will always be gaps for improvement. But I've become a better person, and I'll keep striving to be better.

[???] 2. Be able to balance my life: Spend less time doing time wasters like mindlessly browsing or watching videos.

  • I'm not sure how much I improved. I think I've tried to be more productive and balanced this year ... but procrastination will always be something I struggle with.

[???] 3. Maintain/improve my grades. Study hard to get a good score for my Med Exam.

  • I don't know if I passed or failed yet. Also the latter half is no longer relevant ... though I did take the entrance exam and got a decent score, I've decided to no longer pursue it as I've come to the conclusion it's not a choice that will make me happy.

[PASSED] 4. Improve in my art by tackling new areas of weakness.

  • Hmm...I guess compared to the start of the year I've improved, but I don't know by how much...
  • Jan vs Dec
  • 2019-1 by FruitTartz 2019-2 by FruitTartz

[PASSED] 5. Be more active on my other social media focuses (Twitter, Instagram, Pixiv)

  • Yeah. I've totally ditched dA for twitter LOL. I got better at being active there, but I think I still need to post more art ywy

[PASSED] 6. Create a website.

  • Errr I didn't make a personal FruitTartz website. But I did make a website for [Freit]. This counts, right?

[PASSED] 7. Complete a portion of one of my large art projects.

  • I mean...define completing a portion... :'D Though for sure, the progress I've made this year is so much more than all my previous years combined (which is basically nothing), so definitely a step forward.

[FAILED] 8. Complete one illustration artwork per month.

  • Don't talk to me about this. Just. Don't. T_T

[FAILED] 9. Write more journal entries.

  • For a moment there, I thought I was talking about dA journals and I was so confused because why would I want to write more dA journals? LOL. Then I realized it was IRL journals, which I still failed at anyway so GG.
[PASSED] 10. Keep a positive attitude, and stay strong no matter what challenges might arise in 2019.
  • Well, I'm still alive, right?
2019 Revolution score: 6/10 I should have a resolution where I aim for a 8 minimum :'D

2020 New Years Revolutions:

1. Pass all my exams, and graduate within the year.
2. Balance my life: allocate time appropriately, particularly between study and art. (Achieved if I can complete both 1 and 4)
3. Strive for true self confidence, particularly in academics and my profession.
4. Draw an illustrated bg piece every month.
5. Improve in my anatomy and overall illustration compositions.
6. Publish my webcomic.
7. Be more active online - post more consistently.
8. Stick to my schedules, and use them more.
9. Write more journal entries.
10. Learn to live a life of joy.

Overall, the past year was relatively steady. My academics were okay for the most part; I got a new job; social relationships are fine; my art gradually improved, and I finally started on a webcomic project which, until 2019, were mere daydreams. This next year, my main focus is on graduating and seeing through with this webcomic project ... but most importantly, to be happy.

Academics has always, thoughout my life, been the cause of my misery and distress. It really doesn't help that my degree is unecessaily difficult. So, I've decided that even if I set graduation as a goal, I don't want hold these expectations upon myself like it's the law. After all, this will be my last degree, which I happen to already have a job for. Even if it takes me longer to get registered, it just means I'll come out learning more.

Really, all that truly matters underneath it all, is to be happy. What use is being miserable over the prospect of failures and mistakes, when it is out of fear that we won't gain that happiness? We are making ourselves unhappy in this neverending cycle of happiness pursuit. Honestly, I just want to be joyful and content with my life. I don't want to be living in self inflicted misery all the time ... my internal joy has been dead for so long already, and I want to finally give myself the chance to live. I think, that's the biggest lesson I learnt this year. It's the reason for my major life decisions this year. While a simple lesson, it's not something that's easy to really take to heart and live life by.

Negativity every now and then will be inevitable. That's a part of life. But when it dictates your life ... I don't think that's living. I want to prove that it's possible to live a life of joy, and I hope you all will try to do the same as well.

What are the lessons you've learnt this year? Feel free to include your new years resolutions as well, I'd love to see them :D May we all find joy in 2020!

Happy New Year everyone! How did the first week of 2019 go for you all? It's time for a [2018 New Years Revolution] review!

[PASSED] 1. Continue on improving myself as a person.
  • Throughout the year, I've experienced many new things, learnt many new things in my field of profession. I've definitely grown to become a much more confident person, and my social anxiety has a much weaker grip on me now.
[PASSED] 2. Continue striving on improving my art goals. The same ones as last year.
  • I've challenged myself with many new things this year, and I've managed to learn and improve a lot during this time!
[PASSED] 3. At least properly start on one art project. Please no more daydreaming, self!
  • Sure have! The details are a secret though~
[FAILED] 4. Draw at least one illustration per month.
  • I did very well until the last half of the year... ;w;
[???] 5. Learn how to balance my life more. (Don't focus too much on one thing and neglect the other. Particularly, Art/Study/Relationships.)
  • I feel like something like this is always a work in progress, but I'm slowly learning how to balance everything. To begin with, how do I even measure something like this?
[???] 6. Maintain/Improve my grades.
  • I have improved my grades significantly, but I also ended up failing a subject. So I don't know where to put this.
[FAILED] 7. Actually be more diligent in learning life skills now. Or I will actually die when left to fend on my own.
  • I might as well give up on trying to survive on my own. It's not going to happen.
[PASSED] 8. Obligatory take care of myself goal. Not really expecting anything lifechanging. Just don't die from being stupidly neglecting of oneself :'D My standards sure have dropped LOL.
  • Sure, sure.
[PASSED] 9. Don't give up when the going gets tough. Anything I've given up on in 2018 will warrant a fail 8) Seriously, I have a bad habit of giving up on things easily OTL I'm not much of a fighter.
  • Isn't this considered an obligatory take care of myself goal?
[PASSED] 10. Keep a positive attitude, don't ever let life bring me down :') Gotta have those precautionary goals.
  • These last three resolutions are the same thing, man.
2018's Revolution Score: 6/10 Yay? When will I ever get that 10/10.

Hello everyone! Thanks for being patient with the raffle results! School has not been kind to me at all :') But I finally get a week off! So without further ado, the winner is...

Prtscrn by FruitTartz

:iconshizuko-akatsuki:
Congratulations! You have won a pixel art!
Please note me with the character you would like me to draw~

Thank you to everyone who joined the raffle, I didn't do much chibi practice during that time, but when I have some free time, I will still be going through the journal and practice drawing chibis on the characters you request!

I am planning to host a contest next, and I'm curious to hear your thoughts and how many people would be interested! For those interested,

1. Would you prefer a simple "draw my OC" contest, or a "design a new outfit" contest?
2. Do you prefer themes (e.g. Easter theme, Winter theme, etc), or do you prefer artistic freedom?
3. What sorts of characters do you like drawing? (e.g. simple, fantasy, modern, etc)
4. Do you prefer long or short deadlines?

**edited some questions because I thought of better ones lol**

I am still thinking about prizes, but I don't know how well this would go, so I might start low. What sort of prizes are you most interested in?
Points, core, art?
If there is a lot of interest, I may consider including real-life currency :)

Please let me know, so I have a good idea of what people like, and how high I should make the prizes based on the amount of interest! >_<

Happy Easter everyone! Hope you enjoy the spring holiday~
Also, I know it's terrible timing to upload this on April Fools, but I swear this isn't a joke LOL I don't want to delay this any more than I already have so...believe me I don't do pranks HAHAHA //dies
